Seams and footprints show in most carpets, particularly in new carpeting installed in homes without window coverings and furnishings and where large areas of carpet are exposed to bright light. Seam visibility usually decreases with time and with the reduction in light exposure once window coverings are installed and furniture is placed. Seams are especially visible in loop and patterned carpet. This is to be expected due to the nature and texture of the carpeting itself. We do not guarantee invisible seams; we do guarantee good workmanship (no overlap or gap). Footprints are more visible in new carpet that has not yet “blossomed” by being exposed to foot traffic and vacuuming. Specific types of carpets, such as plush, saxony and cable yarn styles, show footprints. Once the carpet “blossoms” and recovers some of the moisture that was almost entirely removed during the manufacturing process, footprints become less visible. If the carpet you have chosen has a stain resistant feature, it is the yarn/fiber producers that hold the stain-resistant warranties, not New West Designs, Inc.
Nothing feels and looks better in a new home than brand new carpet. Keeping your carpet in top condition is easy with some simple care guidelines.
A good vacuum cleaner can be a carpet's best friend. Regular, thorough vacuuming removes loose dirt and dust from inside the fibers of your carpet. Over time these small particles dull the carpet's appearance therefore frequent vacuuming will keep the fibers' good appearance and extend their life. High traffic areas may need vacuuming more frequently. Make sure to use a vacuum with a good beater bar and maximum suction. Vacuum cleaner attachments make it easy to clean the edge of your carpet along walls and stairs to avoid dust build up. Changing your vacuum cleaner bag frequently will allow your vacuum to function at an optimum level. Place walk-off mats in entryways. These will greatly reduce the amount of dirt brought into your home.
Be advised that looped carpets can snag, particularly at a seam or at a carpet transition. Do not vacuum over loose yarn or try to pull the snag out. The snag could become larger and begin to unravel. It's best to treat your carpet as you would an expensive blouse when you see a loose thread. If a loose yarn is exposed, carefully snip the yarn without catching any of the surrounding loops.
Any time a spill occurs it should be treated as soon as possible. Immediately blot up as much of the liquid or debris with a dry cloth or paper towel. The longer you wait the more the stain will soak into the carpet's fibers. Rubbing or scrubbing the carpet with a rag will damage the fibers and permanently scar the appearance of your carpet. Use warm (not hot) water to rinse the stained area completely. Press clean cloths deeply into the carpet to take up any remaining moisture until the stain no longer appears on the cloth.
If a stain remover is needed, make sure excess moisture is blotted before applying. Make sure not to over apply. Next thoroughly rinse the area with warm water, then absorb the excess dampness with a clean cloth. After carpet has dried, vacuum the carpet to restore texture.
Time and use will naturally take its toll on your carpet. To protect the investment you have made in your flooring it is necessary to have carpets properly cleaned by a professional cleaner approximately once a year. Take advantage of the knowledge, equipment and experience of a reputable, professional carpet cleaning service. They can do a more thorough job of removing stubborn stains and embedded soil. Keep in mind, however, that you only want to do this when necessary, as too much professional cleaning can damage your carpet.
Carpeting keeps your home warm and cozy while enhancing its beauty and value. Keep in mind that carpet should be treated like a textile product. Be sure to read the care and maintenance literature that is provided by the manufacturer. Regular maintenance as well as professional care will allow your carpet to look beautiful for years to come.
